My friend Alice is probably the most beautiful classy woman I know. She is long and lean and easy to laugh, exuding grace and beauty in everything she does.
She and her husband Lash had their first child last month, and it was no different. Oh, she was in labor for a loooong time. But she came out of it with a smile on her face and a new baby boy in her arms.
Motherhood suits her well, as you can see. Burton and Alice and Lash….and you can’t forget Oliver, their sweet furry dog…are just a wonderful family that will have many great memories to cherish. And I’m so happy that I could be a part of helping document some of Burton’s very first memories.
Love to you, Briggs! Can’t wait to see you when our paths cross again.
My niece Molly was Christened in her family’s new church on Sunday.
She looked like a complete angel the entire time, even as she recoiled when the strange man with the black robe tried to kiss her. Her dress, made by Granna and woven for days, is a time piece that will be treasured forever, as well as the memories of this day and the commitments that were made.
Reed, her big brother, was also an angel, if not an entertaining one as he walked up and down the aisles for his adoring audience while lil’ sis was getting baptized.
The Hamilton Hampton event brought family together from both sides and Molly’s mother prepared a wonderful lunch at simple white tables adorned with pink roses in their Signal Mountain home.

I remember the first time I walked into the Antique Tobacco Barn, one of the largest antique dealers in the Southeast, located in Asheville.
It was almost midnight, and I was on the crime beat the Asheville Citizen-Times. I was working third shift that night so I could cover all the flooding (post Hurricane Ivan). We got a call saying there were some good photo opportunities and interviews to be had at the big antique place along Swannanoa River Road. But, unfortunatately, what’s good for the paper is rarely good for the business. At least not at that point.
Dealers were driving into town from across the region to move their antiques above the flood waters as water rolled through the old barn. I remember seeing pieces that I liked that night.
And I’m happy to report that almost five years later, they are still wheeling and dealing down at that old tobacco barn. My friend John is an owner of the place and I took these photos for him recently for his new website (coming soon!).
The Dripolator coffee house is a special place for me. Because if I could name the scent of my husband, it would not be some fancy cologne. Not Ralph Lauren or Bulgari or Old Spice.
It would be called: Dripolator.
He was working there when we met; he worked there when we both moved back to Black Mountain after Mississippi; and now he is working there again during this short time we call Black Mountain home before we head back to Korea in March.
It was fun for me to take a few photos there, as it has been a backdrop of our lives for many years. These photos were taken for Amy, the owner, who will be making some of them into post cards.
If you ever find yourself in Black Mountain and hankering for some good coffee, don’t miss it.
My friends Dave and Natalie Abel were always tons of fun to be around pre-kids. They were the king and queen of good parties and good times.
And I’m happy to report not a thing has changed since they now have two boys. Except the kids are now also the entertainers. And boy are they ever.
David Thomas can entertained for hours. Train rides to the North Pole. Showstopping dance tunes in Mom’s high-heels and glittery skirts. Occasional stints as a clerk in a candy stores. Or a nurse in a doctor’s office. The world is his and he’s got endless opportunities to entertain and have fun.
And his little bro Joey is along for the ride, always with a smile like he’s in on the biggest secret in the world. He’s learned early on that his brother David Thomas is worth the occasional black eye, torn lip, and fall off the bed if that means they get to go the North Pole via the Polar Express.
For their photo shoot, we had to meet at the Black Mountain train depot. I knew David Thomas would feel right at home there and then at Camp Rockmont, the Abels’ home away from home.
Hope you enjoy these photos of this precious, unique family. Don’t forget to watch the slide show at the bottom of the post!

Yesterday I took photos for my good friend John Pomeroy and his business, the Antique Tobacco Barn, one of the largest antique stores in the Southeast with 77,000 square feet of unique and interesting antiques. (I know because I walked through taking thousands of pictures and dreaming about each item in my dream home!)
While I was there, I also some took shots of John, Virginie and Madeleine Pomeroy. What a beautiful family! I love Maddie so much because even though she couldn’t look more like John, she is her own woman. Not only is she the queen of her own little world, but she’s also queen of the Barn.
Thanks for letting me shoot your beautiful family!

I swear I only have friends with cute kids. This was proven again this week when I took a photo shoot of our good friends Josh and Michelle Weeks and their happy-go-lucky little girl Ryann.
It’s obvious this girl will never have enemies as they drove up in their Subaru and she was waving from the backseat before she could even get out of the car. Once she was presented with some bubbles, her feet barely stayed on the ground as she danced around them like a firefly.
I consider myself lucky to be able to capture this special time in her life. Hope you enjoy the photos!

My friends Meredith and Casey really look at home on their farm. They walk out the front door of their little house on the hill, strap on some boots, and can walk down to the cows, greenhouse, campfire, and tractors in just a few steps over the fertile green soil. It’s easy to see why they love it.
And their son Cash loves it even more. The tractor is his favorite, with all its buttons and blue metal and big black steering wheel just begging to be clasped in his small hands.
I was lucky enough to capture a little bit of their life through a few environmental portraits of their sweet family. Hope you enjoy! And if you’re ever in Western North Carolina and looking for fresh veggies or meat, wedding flowers, or marketing for your own farm, you should look ‘em up. Even if you drive up to the wrong place, everybody knows the McKissicks in Old Fort.
Hi! I’m Lindsay Nash. I’m a girl with a camera. I like to travel. I like to take photos. And I love to just capture regular ol’ life any way I see it.
Spirit Tree Photography is my way of sharing what I’ve seen in this big old world with you. Just like the Buddhists’ spirit trees standing stoically across Asia, some things are worth keeping. I believe that some images are too good to forget and should be saved like the tall sacred firs adorned with their simple tied sashes.
